Recovery from Breast Augmentation Surgery.
One should expect a certain degree of pain and swelling after a breast augmentation surgery. One
should expect this to last for at least the first two to three days after surgery. Pain medication is given to help control the pain from the procedure
and it is advised that you have someone stay with you to help until the initial pain subsides. During this time, the patient will be tightly bound with
a gauze dressing around the breasts, which after a few days will be removed and replaced with a tight fitting surgical bra or sports bra.
Since soreness and swelling can last for several months it is recommended that patients ensure that they will be have adequate recovery time after
their breast enlargement.
During the time of recovery, patients will be advised to limit their movement and avoid any activities that involve bending, lifting, and straining of
the muscles. Doing these things can increase not only recovery time, but pain as well. After a week, a patient should be able to return to work as long
as it does not involve strenuous physical activity.
For a few weeks, the breast area will be very sensitive and the scars will be noticeably fresh and pink in color. These scars will fade over time but
will never fully go away after your breast enlargement. Depending on the placement of the incision
will determine how noticeable the scars will be to you and others. Skilled surgeons are usually able to place these scars in a manner that only one who
is actually looking for the scar will find it.
While pain is expected after a breast augmentation, one should not avoid the procedure due to pain fears. Doctors are aware of the pain patients feel
coming out of surgery as well as the days and weeks after their procedure and are readily prepared with a vast selection of medications to aid in
easing recovery.
